Euthanasia Services for Pets

Providing compassionate end-of-life care to ensure your pet's comfort in their final days.

Though it's difficult to imagine life without your pet, it's important to know as much information about euthanasia as possible to help you make the best decision when it's time to say goodbye. Your pet's quality of life could be declining for a range of reasons, from injuries to chronic illness. Our veterinary team can support you through this challenging time, ensuring you feel at peace with your final decision.

What happens when my pet is euthanized?

When a pet is euthanized, we peacefully end their life with two injections. First, your pet is given a sedative to relax them. Next, we administer a large dosage of the euthanasia medication. This sends a signal to their brain to stop their breathing. Soon after, your pet stops breathing. If you have questions about euthanasia, please contact us at 519-941-2275.

How do I know if this is the right choice?

Only you and your family know what's best for your pet because you spend the most time with them. However, our veterinary team can provide you with all the information you need, including your pet's medical history, health status, and the likelihood of recovery, to help you make an informed decision. We often use a quality of life index to assess how your pet's health is impacting their ability to live a full, happy life. Based on these factors, we encourage you to take all the time you need to explore your options, ask questions and consult with your family.

What considerations do I need to make for the procedure?

Our veterinary team will take care of the entire procedure. We'll support you in making arrangements for your pet's body, like burial or cremation. The most important thing to consider is how you'll spend your final days with your pet. Some pet owners plan a week of “best days ever” activities for their pets, including playing with a favourite toy or eating treats. Regardless of how you spend this time with your pet, cherish the memories you'll make before their final goodbye.
