Bloodwork Services for Pets

Providing in-house laboratory testing for quicker results and early diagnosis.

Our veterinary team provides in-house bloodwork to diagnose a range of health conditions. Routine bloodwork helps us stay up-to-date with any changes in your pet's health. Some health issues are difficult to diagnose without further testing. Bloodwork is the best way to determine your pet's overall health.

What is bloodwork?

Bloodwork includes testing a sample of your pet's blood to detect a range of health issues, from parasite infections to organ functioning. A complete blood count (CBC) is one of the most common types of bloodwork we perform. By analyzing the chemical components of your pet's blood, we can gain information like white/red blood cell counts, immune system response, and organ health. We recommend bloodwork when we suspect your pet has a certain health condition or if they seem unwell. Below are some symptoms that may warrant a blood test:

  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • No appetite for more than 24 hours
  • Significant weight loss
  • Aggression

Does my pet need to fast before bloodwork?

Depending on the type of bloodwork your pet needs, we'll provide detailed instructions about fasting. For example, some bloodwork, like checking cholesterol levels, doesn't require fasting. Whereas for others, eating less than 12 hours before an appointment could generate incorrect results about your pet's health. It's important to ensure your pet is properly hydrated before their appointment. If you have questions about preparing your pet for their bloodwork, please contact us at 519-941-2275.
